Week Six Baby-Step Creation: Three Ingredient Coconut Oil Scrub

Want to look young forever? Exfoliate. Want to be poor? Buy expensive, beauty therapist recommended exfoliators. Want to be thrifty and retain your youthful looks? Make this coconut oil scrub.

It’s super dooper easy, and although you can head over to I Heart Naptime for the full instructions it’s pretty self explanatory. A whole bunch of sugar, a little bit of coconut oil and one lemon. Grab a cheese grater and a glass jar and you’ll be ready to roll.

Extra lemons for aesthetic value.

I had a look around the supermarkets for coconut oil to no avail - I recommend your local health store, they'll have a whole bunch to choose from.

Next time you're at the homewares shop, pick up a citrus juicer like this - such a time saver and produses very little mess compared to a traditional orange juicer.

I only used about one and a half cups of sugar, and I opted for raw rather than granulated – basically just use whichever sugar you have handy in the pantry.

A recent obsession with washi tape has finished off this creation and it's now hanging on the shower caddy in the bathroom.

When you use this exfoliator, you can really feel the moisturising nature of the coconut oil. So if you’re someone with oily skin, you’ll HATE it because as we all know oil and water don’t play well together, and you’ll feel an element of it remain on your skin as you wash it off in the shower. But I love the feeling, and the smell of the lemon rind really tops off the combination. I’ve been using on my face and body, and I think for the next batch I’ll substitute vanilla essence instead of lemon to mix it up a bit.

FYI this lemon scrub also tastes amazing. I wouldn’t recommend eating it by the spoonful, but it would be a shame not to enjoy its sugary goodness before doing the post-creation washing up.
